Day 7: Chipmunks, a Tumble, and Views from the Lot
Dublin's Report
We started Day 7 at Utahraptor State Park, and it was a Moab stay day, the kind of day where the road stays put and the sights come to us. First stop: Dead Horse Point, and the East-West Trail.
Chester's Report
CHIPMUNKS. Dead Horse Point has chipmunks, and they started it. I am fast, I am focused, and I was definitely not near the edge. Dublin says I was near the edge. Fine. Leash on, paws back, trail done right, and the views are worth staying leashed for. Look at that canyon.
Dublin's Report
Wayne had a trail moment of his own on the Intrepid Trail at Dead Horse Point. He was looking at a sign, caught his toe on a big rock in the shade, and went face first onto another rock. Trail 1, Wayne 0. He got up, and we carried on, because that is what you do on a trail.
Chester's Report
Then Canyonlands, Island in the Sky. Here is the deal at Canyonlands: dogs stay at the parking areas. No trails, no overlooks. So Wayne and Elle walked out to the Green River Overlook, and we supervised from the lot. Tough job. Busy lot, plenty of people coming and going, plenty to watch, and we were happy to be on the road.
Dublin's Report
By evening the trip was catching up with Wayne's feet. He has blisters on his heels, and my verdict, speaking as the senior dog on this crew, is that he should have trained before the trip, so his heels would have calluses or he would have found the right shoes. Chester's verdict is that Wayne should walk slower and carry more treats, which is not medical advice but is consistent with Chester.
Tonight we are back at Utahraptor State Park. Tomorrow we drive to Goblin Valley. Follow Paws Parks and Provisions for more of the trip.
